Samsung Officially Debuts the Gear S3 Classic and Frontier with GPS, LTE, and More

Samsung recently opened up a beta program to test its upcoming Gear Manager for iOS, and we know from before that the Gear S2 will work with the iPhone—but what about the just-announced Gear S3 Classic and Frontier? Will these new devices support Apple’s smartphone, too? In a word, yes. SamMobile was able to confirm with a Samsung representative at today’s press event that its latest and greatest smartwatches will also work with the iPhone.

“A Samsung executive confirmed the Gear S3 iPhone support at the event today,” reads the article, but no timeframe has been provided as of yet by Samsung.

Both the Classic and Frontier Gear S3 are running Samsung’s proprietary Tizen operating system. Both watches features a 1.3-inch 360×360 full color Super AMOLED display. The case measures in at 46 x 49 x 12.9mm, and inside there’s a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, 768MB of RAM, and 4GB of built-in storage. The battery measures in at 380mAh.

Both are equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+, built specifically for wearables. Both wearables also boast Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, LTE, and NFC and MST support to bring Samsung Pay to the table. There’s a built-in speaker in each variant as well.

The rotating crown is available in both variants well, which features new functionality, like accepting or rejecting calls.

The Gear S3 Classic and Frontier will start shipping later this year.
