Can’t Activate iPhone or iPad After Installing iOS 9.3 Software Update? Here’s How to Fix It

Apple has released a support document Wednesday night to address an issue where some iOS users are unable to activate their devices after updating to iOS 9.3, a software version released earlier this week.

Most reports of the issue seem to come from iPad 2 owners, although a quick search online shows that some iPhone users were also affected. In this support document, Apple offers a few options to try and remedy the problem.

Possible workarounds
A source inside Apple sent us a link to this yet-to-be-made public support document addressing the issue with possible solutions.

Method 1:
  • Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the computer.
  • Open iTunes. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
  • Select your device. You should see the Activate [your device] screen in iTunes.
  • Enter your Apple ID and password and click Continue.
Method 2:
  • Turn off your device or take it offline.
  • Sign in to with your Apple ID and password.
  • Open Find My iPhone.
  • Select All Devices, then select your device.
  • Click Remove from Account. If you still see a map in the device detail view, select All Devices again, click X next to your device, then click Remove.
  • After you set up your device successfully, make sure that you sign in to iCloud again.
