Apple releases iOS 8.4 with Apple Music

As promised, Apple on Tuesday released the free iOS 8.4 software update which introduces an all-new Music app with Apple Music and Beats 1 built-in. The over-the-air update is now available for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices. As these things take some time to propagate, the software update may not show up in your region yet.

“This update introduces Apple Music—a revolutionary music service, 24/7 global radio, and a way for fans to connect with their favorite artists—all included in the redesigned Music app,” release notes accompanying the update explain. “iOS 8.4 also includes improvements for iBooks and bug fixes,” Apple states.

Apple Music, Apple’s music streaming service will also be integrated with the new Music app. Apple Music is an all-in-one streaming music service that has three core parts — Apple Music, Apple Music Radio and Apple Music Connect. You can listen to Beats 1 radio station and Apple Music radio station for free. You can also follow artists and view artist feed on Connect without buying the membership for Apple Music. The Beats 1 Radio service will go live at 8:00 am PT or 11:00 am ET.

iOS 8.4 is compatible with the following iOS devices:
  • iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPad 2, iPad (third-generation), iPad (fourth-generation), iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display
  • iPod touch 5G
Jailbreakers should avoid upgrading to iOS 8.4 as we don’t know if the TaiG 2.x jailbreak tool, which was just released for iOS 8.1.3 – iOS 8.3 will work with iOS 8.4 as well.
