Apple reshuffles iPod touch lineup: lower prices, new $199 model With Rear Camera in six colors

As reported earlier, Apple has just launched the new 16GB iPod touch in multiple colors with 5-megapixel rear camera, and discontinued the $229 16GB iPod touch which didn’t come with a rear camera.

Additionally, existing iPod touch models with 32 and 64 gigabytes of storage have been slashed to $249 and $299, respectively.

The lineup now comprises of the 16/32/64GB variants priced at $199/$249/$299 and offered in black, space grey, pink, yellow, blue and (Product)RED. The media players are now available through the Online Apple Store and ship within 24 hours…

These prices compare to the previous $299 and $399 price points for the 32GB and 64GB variants, respectively. As for the 16GB model, it used to cost $229 and was available only in space grey, and it lacked a rear camera.

Apple had first introduced the 32GB and 64GB 5th generation iPod touch in October 2012 starting at $299, and later launched a stripped down 16GB model without rear camera for $229. The 16GB iPod touch was only available in space gray, and not in multiple colors like the 32GB and 64GB models.

The 5th generation iPod touch is quite outdated as it comes with components such as the A5 chip and a 5-megapixel iSight camera. Apple’s A5 chip was introduced with the release of Apple’s iPad 2 tablet in March 2012, and also powers the iPhone 4s, third generation Apple TV and the first generation iPad mini.

So what do you think ?
