Angry BirdsEpicIt’s finally here. The latest installment in the ever so popular Angry Birds franchise has arrived in the form of Angry Birds Epic. The subtly humorous game has epic battles between your favorite pig characters Red, Chuck and Bomb and classic evil pig villains like King Pig, Wiz Pig and Prince Porky. Angry Birds Epic is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

Broken AgeBroken Age is the first graphic adventure by Tim Schafer in sixteen years, with its roots based on a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign held a few years ago. In the adventure game, which has a coming-of-age storyline, help two teenagers take control of their own lives and deal with the unexpected adventures to follow. Broken Age is $9.99 for iPad.

Revolve(R)evolve, the winner of 2014′s Great British Game Jam, tasks you with protecting life that is evolving on an alien planet. With cute and colorful aliens, fast-paced twitch gameplay, a simple control system, Game Center integration and more, this new app promises hours of gameplay. (R)evolve is free on the App Store, and is a universal app for iPhone and iPad.

Skype5It has been an interesting road to launching on the App Store, but Skype 5.0 appears to finally be available for iPhone users worldwide. The cross-platform VoIP and messaging app has been updated with a redesigned user interface, richer and more reliable messaging, in-app notifications and more. Skype for iPad has yet to be updated, but that is coming soon. Free.

VVVVVVVVVVVV is the iOS adaption of the 2010 indie platformer game of the same name, made by the creators of Super Hexagon. The game is a challenging platformer that reminds me of something you would see on an arcade machine in the early 1990s. Go for the highest score possible, and try not to die. VVVVVV is $2.99 on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

IAInvisible Apartment looks like an interesting new app with very well-designed graphics and a unique storyline. It is a cyberpunk visual novel about a girl hacker struggling in a modern world, revolving around surveillance, hacking, artificial intelligence and cybernetic implants in a high-tech society. Invisible Apartment is free on the App Store for iPad.

TwistyPlanetsTwisty Planets is a brand new puzzle platformer game for iPhone and iPad. Help a little fella named Qub escape the twisty planets by finding stars to open portals. Navigate springboards, moving platforms and teleports as you progress, doing whatever it takes to find your way out of the 3D planets. Twisty Planets is $1.99 on the App Store for a limited time.

Updated Apps

SkitchOur own Christian Zibreg informed us about an update to Skitchtoday that pushed the app to version 3.2 with several new features: a new swipe design for starting new markups, improved saving and sharing from Evernote, PDF sharing via social services, an improved toolbar for annotating images and more. Skitch is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

Scanbot2Scanbot was another popular app that received an update most recently, getting a minor bump to version 2.0.1 with iPad support, the ability to scan QR codes, an optimized grayscale filter and many other small improvements and bug fixes. The PDF and QR code scanning app is $1.99 on the App Store for iPhone, and also for iPad now that it is a universal app.

Amazon Prime MusicAmazon Music was known as Amazon Cloud Player just yesterday, but it has been renamed following the announcement of Amazon’s new streaming music service Prime Music. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you will enjoy unlimited, ad-free streaming of music through this app. Prime Music is free on the App Store and universal for iPhone and iPad.

FlickrRounding off the updates on the day is Flickr, which now sits at version 3.1.0. What’s new is sharing your albums on multiple social platforms, adding and editing photo tags and descriptions, group admins can invite photos to a group, notifications for invited photos in groups, performance improvements and more. Flickr is free on the App Store for iPhone.

On Sale Apps

BlekBy now, I hope that everyone has had the opportunity to give the line and circle game Blek a test drive. But if you haven’t, now is a good time. For a limited time, the app has been discounted from $2.99 to just 99 cents to celebrate being selected as an Apple Design Award Winner for 2014. Blek is 99 cents on the App Storefor iPhone and iPad while on sale.

AyhtrEdge of Twilight – Athyr Above has gone free for a limited time, down from its regular $1.99 price tag. The post-apocalyptic game is based on a time when night and day exist as two separate but parallel realms, as the newest edition to the Edge of Twilight series. Edge of Twilight – Athyr Above is free on the App Store, and universal for iPhone and iPad.
