iPhone 6 – 2 Sizes, But Only 1 Will Release Before Holiday Quarter

A new rumor from Taiwanese Industrial and Commercial Times claims that iPhone 6 will come in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models. But one of those versions could release outside the customary September window set by Apple.

We’ve heard this rumor several times before, and given the details that have been revealed from the Samsung vs. Apple patent trial, it won’t be a surprise if it turns out true. Internal documents reveal that Apple is already aware that consumers want a bigger iPhone, and 2014 seems to be the year when they deliver.

And even though Industrial and Commercial Times doesn’t say a lot about Apple products, this report seems to have some validity. What’s surprising is that the same rumor says that only the 4.7-inch iPhone will be available this year, with mass production going in July. The 5.5-inch model will not go in mass production in September, meaning that it may launch near Christmas.

But it’s not clear that what Apple would do such a scenario. Maybe they announce both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model in September, and give a November pre-order and release date for the latter. The 4.7-inch could hit the shelves early September. Apple has done this before with the 27-inch iMac.

What are your thoughts? Would you purchase a 5.5-inch iPhone?
