The rumor mill has churned a recent leak according to which Apple would be pursuing larger screen for its post iPhone 5 releases. The source of the rumor is a Chinese blog that has previously posted credible information on Apple.
The interesting thing about the rumor is that while the iPhone 6 with larger screen has been in the news, but it is for the first time that it has been suggested that the successor of iPhonr 5C would have a bigger screen too.
As far as the rumor mill’s take on form factors go, there is a lot of discourse. Apple has had a history of testing with different form factors, and this is possible source of information for the rumor mill.
The specs reported in the Chinese blog for iPhone 6 prototype are for a larger screen that measures 4.9 inches on the diagonal. Analysts are skill skeptical on the change in the form factor. The larger iPhones is a sort of agreement within the market, but opinions differ on whether Apple would opt for different screen sizes in the next generation iPhones.
The sizes have varied in the news with one mention of a 4.8 inch iPhone back in January. In June the size of screen oscillated from 4.7 to 5.7 inches.
Such was the impact of the discussion on large screen that even Wall Street Journal suggested that Apple was moving towards larger screens for iPhones and Tablets. The WSJ reported that the smartphone giant was testing screens in the 4.8 to 6 inches range.
Not only Wall Street Journal, but also Bloomberg joined the large screen discussion when it reported that Apple was going towards 4.7 to 5.5 inches screens. According to them Apple would be opting for larger displays with glass that curves downwards at the edges.
It remains to be seen whether these rumors hold true for the next iPhone.
